This decision is part of the safety measures implemented in response to the advancing fires and the risks associated with smoke, which are affecting several areas of the Bordeaux metropolitan area. Authorities are constantly monitoring the situation and may maintain this evacuation until conditions allow for a safe return.

The airport specified that since the terminals – Hall A, Hall B, and the Billi terminal – are closed overnight, it is unable to accommodate travelers who may find themselves without lodging. Passengers whose flights have been canceled or delayed are therefore advised to find alternative accommodation outside the evacuated area.

The airport operator recommends contacting hotels located outside the evacuation zones or considering establishments near the Bordeaux Exhibition Center, which are not affected by the current restrictions.

This evacuation is a further consequence of the devastating wildfires that have been raging in the Gironde region for several days. While Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport is continuing its flight operations, these remain subject to changes in weather conditions, smoke levels, and safety measures implemented by the authorities.

Travelers are advised to regularly check information from their airline and the airport’s communications before traveling there. Authorities reiterate that the safety of passengers, residents, and staff remains the top priority until the fires are fully extinguished.
